Marla Ruzicka 1976-2005

We met in Pakistan/Afghanistan in early 2002, and were roomies in Kabul for a spell.  Saw each other again in Iraq, where she was tragically killed by a suicide car bomb.  She was tenacious but sweet, driven but kind.  Dedicated to the end.  Activist, aid-worker, friend.

David, a gruff exterior did it's best but failed to cover his heart of gold.  He was dedicated to the story like no other.  Anytime I would come to find him in the field, I knew that I was in the right spot.  But I do have this indisputable proof from Kabul, Afghanistan that he stopped to smell the roses every now and again.

From 9/11's ground zero to war to back home covering hurricanes, shown, there's not a place we didn't run into each other. We were last shoulder to shoulder covering the revolution in Egypt.  His amazing life was cut short in Libya, killed in a mortar attack that also killed photojournalist Tim Hetherington.  Hondros could shoot astonishing images all day and then tell enthralling stories all night.  A larger than life persona through and through.
