Deja Fisher, 5, nuzzles her father Jesse's arm while the two spend time in their Santa Ana home.  Fisher's mother, Martha Anaya, 28, who has a history of drug use and prostitution, had been missing since November 12, 2013.  Anaya's boyfriend, Jesse Fisher, had been taking care of their daughter, Deja, 5, since her disappearance while leading an effort to ascertain Martha Anaya's whereabouts. "She's not just some druggie off the streets," he said. "She has friends. She has family," he added. "It's really hard without her right now."

Hundreds of cars waited for hours to exchange their guns for monetary gift cards at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Area.  Hundreds of rifles, shotguns, handguns as well as assault weapons were sold to the Los Angeles Police Department in an annual event. The mayor's office as well as police department officials see the buy back program as part of a strategy that has attributed to a reduction in gun-related crimes in recent years.  Nearly 8,000 guns have been surrendered since the program was initiated in 2009.

Maria Rogers, 49, of Los Angeles, Ca., was diagnosed with stage 3  abdominal cancer in May of 2014.  She had surgery in June which left her with a 12" scar on her stomach where doctors removed her appendix, ovary, uterus and 3 sections of her bowel.  Rogers, who is a physical trainer and a runner, lost several pounds during the treatment.  Her insurance company cancelled her insurance on which prompted friends to start a crowd funding initiative to help her out with expenses.

Televangelist Harold Camping prays before delivering what he promised would be his final appearance on the radio and TV call-in show "Open Forum", which he has hosted for decades.  Camping predicted that the end of the world will come on Saturday, May 21, 2011 starting with a series of earthquakes originating in New Zealand.  Family Stations Inc., of which Camping is president, spent an estimated 100 million dollars warning the public of his predicted judgement day.

About 300 people from the Nashuva spiritual community gather in the surf line on Venice Beach, Ca. to take part in the Tashlich cleansing ritual.   In the Jewish faith, Tashlich, which means "casting away, " invites participants to throw bread into a flowing body of water to symbolically cast away their sins.
